Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Giving Tuesday 2021.

When is Giving Tuesday?

This year, Giving Tuesday is November 30, 2021.

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a global movement of philanthropy following Black Friday and Cyber Monday. To kick off the season of giving, University of the Sciences is joining thousands of organizations, businesses, and communities that participate in the movement. The purpose of Giving Tuesday is to encourage people to take action and support a cause or an organization that is meaningful. Since its inception, Giving Tuesday has become an effective way for organizations like USciences to raise funds and awareness.

How do I make my gift?

Choose any of the participating group(s) during this year's Giving Tuesday campaign and make your gift to them directly on this website!

What are participating groups?

Participating groups are simply what we call the list of charitable designations you have available to give towards: specific departments, scholarships, clubs, athletic teams, etc. These participating groups stepped forward and created their own, unique Giving Tuesday page.

Is there a minimum donation amount during Giving Tuesday?

Yes, there is a $10 minimum donation amount during Giving Tuesday.

Where can I designate my gift?

There are plenty of ways to designate your gift. Please explore our Giving Page to find a participating group that you would like to support. A few examples include scholarships, student experiences, research, and USciences' area of greatest need. This year, you will also be able to help several departments and programs reach their individual giving challenges. On the main giving page you will find links to view each of the participating program’s fundraising goals.

Who can participate in USciences' Giving Tuesday?

Everyone! We encourage faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents to get involved on Giving Tuesday. Our goal on this day is to “give together." Through the collective efforts of the USciences community, we will be able to make a big impact this year.

What are these challenges during Giving Tuesday and how do they work?

This year, there are many generous donors contributing towards a slew of unlockable "challenges".

Whichever participating group reaches their goal first would earn that additional donation. By donating on Giving Tuesday, your gift helps unlock these challenges and could earn your designee of choice extra funding.

If any unlockable "challenges" are not met, those dollars will go towards USciences' Area of Greatest Need.

Are there any matching gifts available during this year's Giving Tuesday?

There are! Some very generous donors have provided matching gifts towards a number of our participating groups. This is a great way to double your impact during Giving Tuesday!

Are there any participating groups not eligible to receive the challenge dollars during Giving Tuesday?

Yes, Area of Greatest Need and the Bicentennial Celebration fund are not eligible to "win" any challenge dollars this year.

I can't find what I would like to give towards, how do I give to an "other" category?

During USciences' Giving Tuesday you can not give to anywhere that is not listed on this website online. The only way to do this is by contacting Jeffrey Howard, Director of Annual Giving via email at or by calling 215-596-8777 from 9:00am - 8:00pm. Please know that any donation you give is sincerely appreciated but will not go towards any Giving Tuesday challenges.

Most of the unlockable "challenges" are reached by hitting a certain number of gifts, can I simply give multiple times in small increments to the same participating group I want to win the challenge?

No. Anyone caught doing this for a single participating group will be manually reverted to count as a single gift. However, you can feel free to make a multitude of gifts to a variety of participating groups at any donation amount you choose.

When looking at all the challenges available, why are some titled leaderboard, event and match? What do they all mean?

These are just different ways the system builds out the challenges, below is what each means...

Leaderboard: As Giving Tuesday progresses leaderboards for these challenges will begin to grow and the system will showcase a winner once the challenge has been met.

Event: These are challenges that the system can't do automatically so it requires an IA member to run the data and determine the appropriate winner of each event challenge.

Match: All of these are matches that are available for specific participating groups. Every donation given to these areas will be automatically doubled until the total match available is met.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, every donation made to University of the Sciences is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

I want to contact someone personally, who do I call?

Jeffrey Howard, Department of Institutional Advancement Director of Annual Giving is fielding all calls and emails for Giving Tuesday. His email is and his phone number is 215-596-8777.  Please feel free to contact him at your convenience.

I just donated during Giving Tuesday, what else can I do to help?
