Camp Discovery is a free summer camp for women with cancer. Despite the high number of women with cancer living longer in the community, there are a limited number of services that can help them re-engage in activities and life when they are in treatment or after completion of treatment. The demand to provide services for this growing population of cancer survivors is becoming a national concern, and requires programming to address to multi-faceted needs of these cancer survivors. The goal of Camp Discovery is to introduce women to a variety of activities that can impact their lives physically, socially, spiritually and emotionally. Occupational Therapy students under the supervision of Dr. Colleen Maher, support the camp as part of their experiential learning, and in this way get direct experience working with cancer patients.
